Kehä is an annual festival, where all the works are produced for one experiencer at a time. The works take in viewers in care institutions and at an open event at the Culture House Valve in Oulu.
Sharing experiences between artists is an essential part of the festival, so we will have a joint orientation day on 30 October 2024 in Oulu. Artists will also have the opportunity to experience other artists’ works, as part of the festival.
ILME’s aim is to promote accessibility to art and culture and the realisation of cultural rights. The Kehä-Festival brings art to communities that are easily excluded from arts and cultural services or face challenges in accessing the arts. Kehä’s works will embark on a care institutions tour on 31 October 2024.
The festival, open to the public, will be held from 1 – 2.11.2024 at the Culture House Valve.
We invite artists from all over Europe who work from a one.to-one art perspective, social and health workers who believe in the potential of art, and all those interested to join us in the Kehä.
ILME has been organising Kehä Festival since 2015. In most years, the Kehä Festival has had a theme that challenges us to explore bilingualism from a certain angle. The 2024 edition of the Kehä Festival will be the ninth in a row.
Kehä-Festival will be held in Oulu at Kulttuuritalo Valve

Kehä-Festival goes international
In 2024 and 2025, Kehä-Festival will be organised as a part of the One-to-One Art project, which has been awarded Creative Europe funding for the period 1.11.2023 – 30.4.2026. The City of Oulu will also support the project. ILME’s partners in the project are the theatre group Gato Escaldado from Lisbon, Portugal, and the residency operator House collective from Klanjec, Croatia. In each country, different ways of bringing bilingual art to the public will be developed during the project.
One-to-One Art project organised a joint Open Call for artists in spring 2024 whit Companhia de Teatro Gato Escaldado, the Croatian Kuća Klajn / House of Klajn and ILME. This year, the Kehä Festival program (October 30–November 2, 2024) consists of artists, some of whom also perform at the One-to-One Art festival in Lisbon (November 15–17, 2024), and a few artists get to work on their pieces at the House Collective’s residency in Klanjec, Croatia (September 9–29, 2024).
