You, me and Aristoteles

Where does your journey begin and where does it find its peak? Bring an important memory to the table. Then decide which part of the story it is: a beginning, end or turning point. We´ll find other parts of the story together, and in the end I will tell it to you.

Duration 30min.

Description of the work: What happens in it?

You, Me, and Aristotle begins, when you step into the room. In your mind you have a memory or an event, a thing or a person, that you want to tell a story about. You will choose whether the thing in your mind is the starting point, the peak or the end of the story. You may pick up an object inspiring you from a treasure chest. You can decide where in the storyline we will make a knot. The knot is a sign of something important. You can cancel and start all over again, if you feel like it. This is your story, and we are here to play with it.

In the piece, I would like to capture the experience of the narrative nature of life, of how we mark some things as important things, as starting points. And how we consider some other event as the turning point or the end of an experience. I want to play with this assumption and ask, what if the end is just a beginning. And how can you go on from there? What if we look carefully at the beginning – what must have happened before that?

You, Me and Aristotles plays a game with Aristotle’s familiar story patterns: there’s a beginning, there’s middle and an ending, there’s a balance and the shaking of that balance, a peak after the turning points. In the piece, I would like to lead us both to see the relativity of a story – nothing truly ends, and a lot has happened before the beginning. My goal is to research time, decisions, possibilities, causes and outcomes. And perhaps to write an alternative truth for something or someone very important.

Finally, when we agree that here we have the whole we want to build up today, I will tell your story for you from the beginning to the very end, one more time. When you leave, you may take the rope of the narration with you, with its knot, if you wish.
